Ashes

They came one cold December morning

Leaving nothing but embers burning

Beneath a sun we remember dawning

For those we are forever mourning

They came without a moment’s warning

Hidden by the snow so heavy falling

They barred the exits and doused the walls

Put flame to timber and watched us burn

And where our homes once stood

Made of earth and wood

Now just ashes lay

All black and grey

And there the bodies of

Everyone we loved

Now lifeless they lay

All black and grey

Mothers and daughters and fathers and sons

Slaughtered for no fucking reason

By dawn’s first light they were all gone

Never to see another sun

And where our homes once stood

Made of earth and wood

Now just ashes lay

All black and grey

And there the bodies of

Everyone we loved

Now lifeless they lay

All black and grey

A whole world shattered

Reduced to ashes

Lives left tattered

Torn and scattered

But why?

So you could have more land

Your empire could expand

And to get what you planned

People died by your hand

Why?

And where our homes once stood

Now just ashes remain

Your hands are red with blood

They are forever stained

Those who tried to resist

Were so brutally slain

And where they once lived

Now just ashes remain
