Sand Storm

I wrote this poem back in the summer of 2009, whilst on holiday in South America. Whilst sat on a beach, my mind wandered to my best friend back home, and how much I wished they could share the peace, the beauty and the tranquillity of the surroundings with me. Sadly she passed away later that year, before I’d worked up the courage to show her what I had written.

I’m standing on the beach,
And I’m looking out to sea.
Several thousand miles of ocean,
Stand between you and me.

Last night I had a dream,
I saw inside my mind;
I was lying on the sand,
And you were by my side.

The feeling that’s inside me,
When I see the sunrise,
Is the feeling that’s inside me,
When I look into your eyes.

This is not a love song,
I don’t want to make you mine.
I just wish you could be here,
To be with me at this time.

The clouds fly by and the sun goes down,
And still I stand on my own.
But in this place as I think of you,
I know I’m not alone.

My brother kindly wrote music for these words, using Noteflight, using the fourth stanza as a chorus. You can listen to it here, if you are a member on Noteflight. Check out his other pieces too! You can also view his facebook page.
